Enablement is the sum of actions required to improve our personal well-being and make our eDreams happen in our modern day. The Enablement framework helps with managing our lives and eDream pursuits within our modern day of:

  • Risk - time, money, reputations, relationships, job and personal well-being.
  • Complexity - finding an intersection of competing interests within multiple people, areas of knowledge, funding sources and personal needs.
  • Many People - decision makers, contributors, supporters and others impacted such as family, friends, employer, colleagues, teachers, classmates, etc.
  • Numerous Iterations - leaning along the way, changing as understanding improves
  • Multiple Years - discipline, enduring grit, fitting it in with life, securing knowledge and resources, multiple iterations of solutions, approaches and plan to get it right
  • Change - to frequently realign our creations, careers and daily lives to the dynamic realities.
  • Complexity - to discover and negotiate the intersection of multiple concepts, disciplines and interests.
  • Synchrony - with limited resources and time to “fit it all in” in achieving personal well-being
  • Iteration - to continuously adapt to new understanding of realities, people and what works (failure)

Enablement Insight helps to understand which enablement components are required to make an eDream happen like Craig Venter did in making his big idea to sequence the human genome happen.

The following are the components of enablement of eDream that must be addressed and aligned to make it happen.

Once it is understood how each enablement component needs to be addressed, it is determined whether there is a way to minimally address each of the eDream and enablement components at the same time which is called Enablement Intersection. The enablement components will evolve and iterate often as new information is learned. The way in which eDream and enablement components are address continues to iterate, the approach must still ensure an Enablement Intersection.

Enablement Insight helps to understand if it is possible to make an eDream happen. Enablement Insight offers insight into what would it take to be like Craig Venter who made his big idea to sequence the human genome happen.

Decision Makers

Decision Makers are people that may be able say yes when everyone else says no and still get their way. There could be one decision maker or there could be millions if the eDream is to win a political campaign or sell a retail product. The three types of decision makers include the acceptance of the solution, creation of the solution and the investment of the required funding and/or resources. Decision Makers can be beneficiaries and aspirers as their decisions can decide the successful enablement of an eDream. Decision Maker Insight helps to understand who and how to engage decision makers people required to make an eDream happen. It offers insight into how to engage them like Kevin Plank did in pursuing his big idea which became the company Under Armour.

Contributors

Contributors are people that believe in the aspirer(s) and/or the eDream and willingly contribute their time, money or talents to help ensure it happens. Contributors may benefit from the successful enablement of the eDream though they are not directly reimbursed for helping with the eDream pursuit like a provider. Contributor Insight helps to understand what type of contributor(s) are required and how to secure their contributions like Jimmy Wales did when creating Wikipedia.

Knowledge

A level of knowledge, in addition to understanding the people and communities, is required for the successful enablement of an eDream. Knowledge is an enablement component of making an eDream successfully happen. Knowledge Insight helps understand what knowledge is required to make an eDream happen. It offers insight into how people like Tony Fadell had to learn when pursuing his big idea which led to the creation of the iPod.

Communities

Communities are groups of people that can be associated by something in common that may influence people's decisions and/or potentially impact the enablement of an eDream. Communities are enablement components of making an eDream successfully happen. Communities Insight helps to understand which communities are required to make an eDream happen. It offers insight into how people like Jeff Bezos learned about the book communities when pursuing his big idea which led to the creation of Amazon.com.

Realities

Realities are the understanding of what is really the case or how something actually operates. Realities are enablement components that could impact making an eDream successfully happen. A reality could be the speed limit of 72 mph rather than the 65 on the sign. It could be that most people do not like telemarketer calls. People or organization may have defined rules and processes to operate, realities are how they actually operate. The understanding of the established, new and emerging may have significant impact on the success of an eDream. The understanding of realities was a key component in helping Reed Hastings develop his big idea which in now Netflix.

Funding

Funding is the total financial resources required to make an eDream happen. Funding is an enablement component of making an eDream successfully happen. Funding Insight provides insight into the potential methods our securing the financial resources that may be required like funding your first film that ends up nominated for an Academy Award.

Personal Needs

Personal Needs are personal requirements of the people that must happen, otherwise it would delay or prevent the eDream from happening if they are not addressed. A personal need could be associated with aspirer, beneficiary, decision maker or contributor as well as people that could distract or prevent them for successfully achieving the eDream. Personal Needs are enablement components of making an eDream successfully happen. Personal Needs Insight provides insight into the potential personal needs that may be required.

Plan

The Plan provides the activities, expense, people, resources and time required to make the eDream happen. The plan includes Development Plan, Financial Plan and the Project Plan. The Plan provides an overall timeline of the major milestone and their and dependencies.
